  • The hotelNEXT competition was open to any undergraduate student enrolled in a Canadian University.
  • Each Team may only submit one project.
  • Teams may consist of a maximum of 4 undergraduate students. Sorry, graduate students are not permitted in this competition.
  • New students cannot join the Team once the project has been submitted.
  • Teams who made it into the Top 3 Teams and have presented at the conference in the past are not permitted to enter the competition again.
  • To qualify, Teams must contact at least one of our Mentors to sign off on their submission by completing the Application Form.
  • Once an application is submitted, new or updated versions of the presentation may not be submitted.
  • All materials must be in English.
  • There is no limit to the number of Teams that can enter per school.
  • Team members can be from the same or different Canadian Universities.
  • Teams will be allowed to present on the same market.


  • Finalists will be contacted by Big Picture Conferences.
  • If chosen to present, at least 1 member of the Team must speak during the presentation at the Canadian Hotel Investment Conference.
  • Finalists will be required to present a 10 (maximum) minute presentation on stage at the Canadian Hotel Investment Conference.
  • A PC laptop and video projector will be provided.
  • There was a panel of Judges from hotel companies, consulting and investment firms.
  • A $5,000 cash prize were awarded to the winning Team, with 2nd place and 3rd place Teams winning $3000 and $2000 respectively.
  • The top 3 Teams will be recognized with an award.
  • Presenting Teams will receive compensation for expenses (travel, lodging, meals, etc.) from Big Picture Conferences.
  • Regarding the rights of Intellectual Property, once students have presented their ideas at the Canadian Hotel Investment Conference, concepts will be in the public domain for anyone to use.
